Summer Schools
Gifted and Talented Summer School
Each year the school runs a Gifted and Talented Summer School during August. This year's summer school took place from Thursday 19th August to Saturday 21st August 2010. Pupils from year 7 and 8 were joined by pupils in year 6 who were joining us in September for a fun packed 3 days in Wales.
The location for this year's summer school was The Conway Centre in Wales. Pupils enjoyed a range of activities that encourage them to work as a team and take risks in a controlled environment. Some of the activities that pupils were involved in were high ropes course, zip wire, raft building, nightline and batik work. The trip ended with a gather around the camp fire in the centres tepee.
Pupils also enjoyed an unexpected cultural experience. During our stay at the centre a large Sikh convention was taking place and pupils learnt to respect certain traditions and customs that they had.
For many of our pupils this was their first trip away from home and they quickly made friendship bonds that are still in place now they are pupils at Buile Hill Visual Arts College.
